8 To conclude, I tell you, you must live in peace with one another. Try to understand each other, love each other as brothers and sisters. Be kind and humble.
1 Peter 3: 8
9 Do not do evil to anyone who does evil to you. Or do not speak ill of those who speak ill of you. But bless that person, because you were also called by God to receive blessings.
1 Peter 3: 9
The Scriptures say, “Whoever wants to live a happy life and have a good day, let him keep his tongue from speaking evil, and his lips from speaking lies.
1 Peter 3:10
11 He must find peace and work hard to achieve it.
1 Peter 3:11
12 The Lord beholdeth the righteous, and the Lord heareth their prayer: but the Lord is against them that do iniquity.
1 Peter 3:12
13 If you work hard to do good, no one will hurt you.
1 Peter 3:13
14 When you do what is good, you may suffer. If that happens then you are blessed. “Don’t be afraid of people who threaten you and don’t be upset.”
1 Peter 3:14
15 Rather, sanctify Christ as Lord in your life. Always be prepared to answer anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have.
1 Peter 3:15
16 But answer them with kindness and respect. You should always be able to feel that you are doing the right thing. If you do this, those people who speak badly about your good life in Christ will be ashamed.
1 Peter 3:16
17 It is better to suffer for good than for evil, if that is what God wills.
1 Peter 3:17
18 Christ also suffered and died for sins once. He did not sin, but he died for all people. He did not sin. He did this to bring us all closer to God. His body died, but he lived in his spirit.
1 Peter 3:18
19 Then in the spirit he went and preached to the spirits in prison.
1 Peter 3:19
20 These are the same spirits who refused to obey God in Noah’s day. When Noah was building the ark. God was patiently waiting for them. Only a handful of eight people were rescued from the water by boat.
1 Peter 3:20
21 That water was like the baptism that saves you now. Baptism is not about removing dirt from the body, but about asking God for a pure heart. It saves you because Jesus Christ was raised from the dead.
1 Peter 3:21
22 Now Jesus has gone to heaven. And sits at the right hand of God. He rules over angels, authorities, and powers.
1 Peter 3:22
Keep moving forward towards God
12 I do not mean that I have already become exactly as God intended me to be. I haven’t reached the goal yet. But I am constantly struggling to reach that goal. That is why Christ Jesus made me his own.
Philippians 3:12
13 Brothers and sisters, I know that I have not yet reached my destination. But there is one thing I always do; I have forgotten the past and I am trying hard to reach the destination that is in front of me.
Philippians 3:13
14 I am constantly striving to reach the destination and win the prize for which God is calling us to heaven through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14
15 All of us who have grown up spiritually should think the same way. But if you do not agree with any of these things, God will make it clear to you.
Philippians 3:15
16 In any case we must continue to walk in the path of truth that we have been following so far.
Philippians 3:16
17 Brothers and sisters, follow my example. Observe the people who follow our example closely. As we show you the way. Follow them.
Philippians 3:17
18 Many people live like enemies of the cross of Christ. I have told you many times about such people. And now as I talk about them, I start to cry.
Philippians 3:18
19 The way they live is the way that leads to destruction. Their hunger is their God. They are proud of the things they should be ashamed of. They think only of worldly things.
Philippians 3:19
20 But our homeland is in heaven. We are waiting for our Savior to come down from heaven. Our Savior is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:20
21 Christ will change our physical bodies like his glorious body. He will do this with the power by which he is able to control everything.
Philippians 3:21
Food offered to idols
1 Now I will write about the meat of the sacrifice that is offered to idols. We know that “we all have knowledge.” Knowledge fills you with pride. But love helps you to be stronger than others.
1 Corinthians 8: 1
2 A person who thinks he knows something does not know what he should know.
1 Corinthians 8: 2
3 But he that loveth God knoweth not God;
1 Corinthians 8: 3
4 Wherefore I say unto them, This is the law of the flesh: for we know that idolatry is nothing in the world. We also know that there is one and only God.
1 Corinthians 8: 4
5 It doesn’t really matter that some things on earth and in the sky are called gods. Many people call such things “gods” or “lords.”
1 Corinthians 8: 5
6 But we have only one God. He is our Father. Everything has come from Him and we live only for Him. There is only one Lord. He is Jesus Christ. All things are created through him, and we also live through him.
1 Corinthians 8: 6
7 But not all people know this. Some people are still in the habit of worshiping idols. So when they eat this meat, they feel like it belongs to an idol. They don’t know if it’s okay to eat this meat. So when they eat this meat, they think they are doing something wrong.
1 Corinthians 8: 7
8 But food does not bring us closer to God. By not eating meat, we do not lose anything or by eating, we do not gain anything.
1 Corinthians 8: 8
9 But be careful about your freedom. Your own faith can make weak people sin.
1 Corinthians 8: 9
10 You have understanding, so you feel free to eat in the temple of idols. A person with a weak faith may see you eating there. This will also encourage him to eat the meat offered to the idols. But he actually misunderstands it.
1 Corinthians 8:10
11 So this weak brother can be destroyed because of your knowledge. And Christ was sacrificed for this brother.
1 Corinthians 8:11
12 When you cause your brothers and sisters in Christ to do something they think is wrong, you are sinning against them and hurting them. Then you are also sinning against Christ.
1 Corinthians 8:12
13 Therefore I will never again eat the flesh that I have caused my brother to sin. I will stop eating meat so that I will not let my brother and sister fall into sin.
1 Corinthians 8:13
