Preaching of the Apostles in Cyprus

4 Both were sent by the Holy Spirit to Seleucia. And from there by ship to the island of Cyprus.
Acts 13: 4

5 When Barnabas and Saul came to the city of Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. John Mark was there to help them.
Acts 13: 5

6 And when they had passed through the whole island, they came to Paphos. In the city of Paphos, he met a Jewish man who practiced magic. His name was Bereasus. He was a false prophet.
Acts 13: 6

7 Briasus was always close to Sergius Paulus, the governor. Sergius Paulus was a wise man. He invited Barnabas and Saul to his house because he wanted to hear the word of the Lord.

8 But the sorcerer Ilmas (the Greek name for Ilmas Bereasum) was against them. Ilmas tried to stop the governor from acknowledging his faith.

9 But Saul was full of the Holy Spirit (Saul is also called Paul). Paul looked at Elmas.
Acts 13: 9

10 And said, Thou, O son of the devil, is the enemy of every good thing. You are full of evil and lies. You have always turned the Lord’s truth into falsehood.

11 Now the Lord will touch you and make you blind. For a while you will not be able to see anything, not even the light of the sun. ”Then everything went dark for Elmas, and he looked around for someone to take his hand and lead him.
Acts 13:11

12 When the governor saw what had happened, he was amazed and believed the word of the Lord.

Make others happy, not yourself

1 Let those of us who are strong in our faith help the weak. We must help them overcome their weaknesses. We must not please ourselves.
Romans 15: 1

2 Each of us should please others. We must do this to help strengthen their faith.
Romans 15: 2

3 Even Christ never lived to please himself. As the Scriptures say about him, “The humiliation of those who humiliated you has fallen on me.”

4 Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us. These things were written so that we might have hope. And that hope comes from patience and the strength that the scriptures give us.
Romans 15: 4

5 Wherefore endurance and strength come from God, that God may help you to be in the same way, even as Christ Jesus.
Romans 15: 5

6 Then you will all come together and praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with one mouth.

Keep moving forward towards God

12 I do not mean that I have already become exactly as God intended me to be. I haven’t reached the goal yet. But I am constantly struggling to reach that goal. That is why Christ Jesus made me his own.
Philippians 3:12

13 Brothers and sisters, I know that I have not yet reached my destination. But there is one thing I always do; I have forgotten the past and I am trying hard to reach the destination that is in front of me.

14 I am constantly striving to reach the destination and win the prize for which God is calling us to heaven through Christ Jesus.

15 All of us who have grown up spiritually should think the same way. But if you do not agree with any of these, God will make it clear to you.

16 In any case we must continue to walk in the path of truth that we have been following so far.
Philippians 3:16

17 Brothers and sisters, follow my example. Observe the people who follow our example closely. As we show you the way. Follow them.
Philippians 3:17

18 Many people live like enemies of the cross of Christ. I have told you about such people many times. And now as I talk about them, I start to cry.

19 The way they live is the way that leads to destruction. Their hunger is their God. They are proud of the things they should be ashamed of. They think only of worldly things.
Philippians 3:19

20 But our homeland is in heaven. We are waiting for our Savior to come down from heaven. Our Savior is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:20

21 Christ will change our physical bodies like his glorious body. He will do this with the power by which he is able to control everything.
