To die and to live with Christ

1 Do you think that we should keep on sinning so that God may have mercy on us? Certainly not.
Romans 6: 1

2 We have died for our old sinful life. How, then, can we continue to live in sin?

3 Have you forgotten that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have become part of him? We have shared his death that we received through his baptism.
Romans 6: 3

4 Wherefore when we were baptized, we were buried with Christ, and shared in his death. We are buried with Christ so that we may be resurrected and live a new life. All this happened just as Christ was raised from the dead by the great power of the Father.

5 Christ died, and because we have shared with him in death, we will be reunited with him in his resurrection.

6 We know that our former sinful nature was crucified with Jesus. This happened so that our sinful nature would not have any control over us. Let us no longer be slaves to sin.

7 Anyone who has died is free from the power of sin.

8 If we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
Romans 6: 8

9 For we know that Christ, being raised from the dead, cannot die again. Now death has no power over him.
Romans 6: 9

10 For Christ died for our sins once and for all. And the life he is living now is for God.
Romans 6:10

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin. But live for God through Christ Jesus.

12 But do not let sin control your life here on earth. You must not succumb to the evil desires of your sinful mind.

Do everything for the glory of God

23 “All things are lawful for me.” Yes, but not everything is helpful. ” “All things are lawful for me.” Yes, but not everything helps.
1 Corinthians 10:23

24 No one should do things that only help him. He should also do what is helpful to others.

25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market. Don’t raise any question about proving this meat wrong.

26 You may eat it, for the earth and all things on it belong to the Lord.

27 Anyone who is not a believer may invite you to a meal with him. Don’t question whether it is good to eat or not.

28 But if any man say unto you, This hath been offered to idols, eat not. Don’t eat it. Because you don’t want to hurt the faith of the person who told you about it and also because some people think that eating meat is wrong.

29 I do not mean that you think this is wrong. But the other person may think that this is wrong. That is why I will not eat that meat. My freedom should not be judged by what others think.

30 I eat food after giving thanks. So I don’t want to be criticized for what I thank God for.

31 So if you eat or drink, or if you do anything, do it for the glory of God.

32 Do not do anything that offends the people, the Jews, the Greeks, or the church of God.

33 I do the same. I try my best to please everyone. I don’t try to do what is good for me, I try to do it so that they can be saved.

The martyrdom of James and the imprisonment of Peter

1 At that time King Herod began to punish some of the people in the church.
Acts 12: 1

2 For Herod commanded John, the brother of John, to be slain with the sword.
Acts 12: 2

3 When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Jewish holiday of Passover.
Acts 12: 3

4 Herod arrested Peter and put him in prison. He assigned sixteen soldiers to watch over him. He wanted to wait for the Passover to pass and then bring Peter before the people.
Acts 12: 4

5So Peter was kept in prison, but the believers kept praying to the Lord for him.
