Food offered to idols

1 Now I will write about the meat of the sacrifice which is offered to idols. We know that “we all have knowledge.” Knowledge fills you with pride. But love helps you to be stronger than others.
1 Corinthians 8: 1

2 A person who thinks he knows something does not know what he should know.
1 Corinthians 8: 2

3 But he that loveth God knoweth him;
1 Corinthians 8: 3

4 Wherefore I say unto the idols, This is the way of eating flesh: for we know that idolatry is nothing in the world. We also know that there is only one God.
1 Corinthians 8: 4

5 It doesn’t really matter that some things on earth and in the sky are called gods. Many people call such things “gods” or “lords.”
1 Corinthians 8: 5

6 But we have only one God. He is our Father. Everything has come from Him and we live for Him alone. There is only one Lord. He is Jesus Christ. All things are created through him, and we also live through him.
1 Corinthians 8: 6

7 But not all people know this. Some people are still in the habit of worshiping idols. So when they eat this meat, they feel like it belongs to an idol. They do not know whether it is proper to eat this meat or not. So when they eat this meat, they think they are doing something wrong.
1 Corinthians 8: 7

8 But food does not bring us closer to God. By not eating meat, we do not lose anything or by eating, we do not gain anything.
1 Corinthians 8: 8

9 But be careful about your freedom. Your own faith can make weak people sin.
1 Corinthians 8: 9

10 You have understanding, so you feel free to eat in the temple of idols. A person with weak faith may see you eating there. This will also encourage him to eat the meat offered to the idols. But he actually misunderstands it.
1 Corinthians 8:10

11 So this weak brother can be destroyed because of your knowledge. And Christ was sacrificed for this brother.
1 Corinthians 8:11

12 When you cause your brothers and sisters in Christ to do something they think is wrong, you are sinning against them and hurting them. Then you are also sinning against Christ.
1 Corinthians 8:12

13 Therefore I will never again eat the flesh that I have caused my brother to fall into sin. I will stop eating meat so that I will not let my brother and sister fall into sin.
1 Corinthians 8:13

Hearken unto me, ye house of Jacob, all ye children of Israel, which are yet alive, and I will lift you up. Isaiah 46: 3

1 Bell and Nebo will bow before me. Those false gods are only idols. People put those idols on the backs of animals. Those idols are just a big load to carry. False gods do nothing but deceive people.
Isaiah 46: 1

2 All those false gods will bow down – they will all fall. Those false gods cannot escape – they will all be taken away as prisoners.
Isaiah 46: 2

3 Hear, O house of Jacob, all ye children of Israel that are still alive, and I will lift you up;
Isaiah 46: 3

4 I will give you back when you were born, and I will give you back when you are old. Your hair will turn white, and I will pick you up again, because I made you. I will carry you and I will save you.
Isaiah 46: 4

5 “Can you compare me with anyone else? No! No man is equal to me. There is no one like me.
Isaiah 46: 5

6 Some people are rich with gold and silver. The gold falls from their bellies and they weigh their silver in the scales. They make an artist a false god of wood by paying a price. Then those people worship and worship that false god.
Isaiah 46: 6

7 They carry that false god on their shoulders. That false god is useless – people have to pick him up! People make idols on the earth, and the false god cannot shake them. That false god never leaves his place. People may shout at him, but he will not answer. That false god is just an idol – it can’t save people from their troubles.
Isaiah 46: 7

8 “You people have sinned. You must think about these things again. Remember these things and be strong.
Isaiah 46: 8

9 Remember the things that happened long ago. Remember that I am God. There is no other God. Those false gods are not like me.
Isaiah 46: 9

10 “In the beginning, I told you things that would happen in the end. A long time ago, I told you things that did not happen yet. Whenever I plan something – that thing happens. I I do the things I want to do.
Isaiah 46:10

11 And I am calling a man from the east. He will be like a hawk. He will come from far away, and he will do what I have decided to do. I tell you, I will do it, and I will do it. I made him, and I will bring him!
Isaiah 46:11

12 “Some of you think you have too much power – but you do not do good. Listen to me!
Isaiah 46:12

13 I will do good. Soon I will save my people. I will save Zion and my wonderful Israel. “
Isaiah 46:13
