Food offered to idols

1 Now I will write about the meat of the sacrifice which is offered to idols. We know that “we all have knowledge.” Knowledge fills you with pride. But love helps you to be stronger than others.
1 Corinthians 8: 1

2 A person who thinks he knows something does not know what he should know.
1 Corinthians 8: 2

3 But he that loveth God knoweth him;
1 Corinthians 8: 3

4 Wherefore I say unto the idols, This is the way of eating flesh: for we know that idolatry is nothing in the world. We also know that there is only one God.
1 Corinthians 8: 4

5 It doesn’t really matter that some things on earth and in the sky are called gods. Many people call such things “gods” or “lords.”
1 Corinthians 8: 5

6 But we have only one God. He is our Father. Everything has come from Him and we live for Him alone. There is only one Lord. He is Jesus Christ. All things are created through him, and we also live through him.
1 Corinthians 8: 6

7 But not all people know this. Some people are still in the habit of worshiping idols. So when they eat this meat, they feel like it belongs to an idol. They do not know whether it is proper to eat this meat or not. So when they eat this meat, they think they are doing something wrong.
1 Corinthians 8: 7

8 But food does not bring us closer to God. By not eating meat, we do not lose anything or by eating, we do not gain anything.
1 Corinthians 8: 8

9 But beware of your freedom. Your own faith can make people weak.
1 Corinthians 8: 9

10 You have understanding, so you feel free to eat in the temple of idols. A person with weak faith may see you eating there. This will also encourage him to eat the meat offered to the idols. But he actually misunderstands it.
1 Corinthians 8:10

11 So this weak brother can be destroyed because of your knowledge. And Christ was sacrificed for this brother.
1 Corinthians 8:11

12 When you cause your brothers and sisters in Christ to do something they think is wrong, you are sinning against them and hurting them. Then you are also sinning against Christ.
1 Corinthians 8:12

13 Therefore I will never again eat the flesh that I have caused my brother to fall into sin. I will stop eating meat so that I will not let my brother and sister fall into sin.
1 Corinthians 8:13

True Righteousness

1 Therefore rejoice in the Lord, brethren. It doesn’t bother me to write these things over and over again. These will help you to be more prepared.
Philippians 3: 1

2 Beware of those who commit adultery. They are like dogs. They ask for the body to be cut off.
Philippians 3: 2

3 But we are the people who are truly circumcised. We worship God through his Spirit and put our faith in Christ Jesus instead of in ourselves.
Philippians 3: 3

4 Though I may put my trust in myself, yet I do not. If anyone thinks he can put his trust in himself, then I have more reasons to put my trust in him.
Philippians 3: 4

5 I was circumcised on the eighth day. I am from the tribe of Benjamin. I am a Jew and my parents were Jewish. The law of Moses was very important to me, so I became a Pharisee.
Philippians 3: 5

6 I was very zealous about my Judaism. So I punished the church. I carefully obeyed the law of Moses and found no fault in anyone obeying my law.
Philippians 3: 6

7 But all things which were once important to me, these I declare to be vain in Christ.
Philippians 3: 7

8 For even greater things I owe to this day, because of the excellency of our Lord Jesus Christ. That is why I have given up everything. And I have come to regard all things as false, so that I may have Christ.
Philippians 3: 8

9 It helps me to be in Christ and to be righteous. This righteousness does not come from obeying the law, but from God through faith. God justifies me through my faith in Christ.
Philippians 3: 9

10 What I want to know is Christ and the power that raised him from the dead. I want to be a partaker of Christ’s sufferings and be like him in his death.
Philippians 3:10

11 So I hope that somehow I can be one of those who are raised from the dead.
Philippians 3:11

Keep moving forward towards God

12 I do not mean that I have already become exactly as God intended me to be. I haven’t reached the goal yet. But I am constantly struggling to reach that goal. That is why Christ Jesus made me his own.
Philippians 3:12

13 Brothers and sisters, I know that I have not yet reached my destination. But there is one thing I always do; I have forgotten the past and I am trying hard to reach the destination that is in front of me.
Philippians 3:13

14 I am constantly striving to reach my destination and win the prize for which God is calling us to heaven through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14

15 All of us who have grown up spiritually should think the same way. But if you do not agree with any of these, God will make it clear to you.
Philippians 3:15

16 In every case we must continue to walk in the path of truth that we have been following till now.
Philippians 3:16

17 Brothers and sisters, follow my example. Observe the people who follow our example closely. As we show you the way. Follow them, too.
Philippians 3:17

18 Many people live like enemies of the cross of Christ. I have told you many times about such people. And now as I talk about them, I start to cry.
Philippians 3:18

19 The way they live is the way that leads to destruction. Their hunger is their God. They are proud of the things they should be ashamed of. They think only of worldly things.
Philippians 3:19

20 But our homeland is in heaven. We are waiting for our Savior to come down from heaven. Our Savior is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:20

21 Christ will change our physical bodies like his glorious body. He will do this with the power by which he is able to control everything.
Philippians 3:21
