13 Abraham and his descendants were promised that they would inherit the whole world. He did not receive this promise simply by following the law, but he received this promise through righteousness, which comes through faith.
Romans 4:13
14 If a man can obtain the things that God has promised by following the law, then faith is worthless and God’s promise to Abraham is worthless.
Romans 4:14
15 Why? Because the law can only bring the wrath of God when the law is not followed. But if there is no law, then there can be no disobedience of the law?
Romans 4:15
16 Therefore the promise of God came by faith. This happened so that the promise would be a free gift. And if the promise is a free gift, then all of Abraham’s people can receive this promise. This promise is not only for those who live under the law of Moses, but it is for those who live by faith like Abraham. So Abraham is the father of us all.
Romans 4:16
17 As it is written in the scriptures: “I have made you the father of many nations.” It is true before God that Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead to life and causes the unthinkable to happen.
Romans 4:17
18 There was no hope that Abraham’s house would have children. But Abraham believed in God with hope, that is why he became the father of many nations, as God told him, “You will have many descendants.”
Romans 4:18
19 Abraham was very old. About a hundred years old. He knew very well that it was not possible for him to have children. Sarah was also unable to bear a child. But his faith in God did not weaken.
Romans 4:19
20 From the word of God he did not doubt with unbelief. Rather, being strong in faith, he praised God.
Romans 4:20
21 On the other hand, he firmly believed that God, who had made a promise to him, was able to fulfill the promise.
Romans 4:21
22 Therefore, “God accepted his faith and justified him.” The words “God accepted his faith” were not written just for Abraham, but for us as well.
Romans 4:22
23 God will also accept us because we believe in him.
Romans 4:23
24 We believe in God who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
Romans 4:24
25 Jesus was handed over to die for our sins and raised from the dead to make us righteous.
Romans 4:25
