God’s wrath and mercy

19 Then one of you will ask me, “If God is the one who does all the work we do, why does he blame God for our sins?”
Romans 9:19

20 Don’t ask. Because you are only human. Humans do not have the right to argue with God. A creature cannot ask its creator, “Why did you make me like this?”
Romans 9:20

21 A potter who makes pots makes different kinds of pots according to his will for different purposes with the same clay. He can make some for special use and some for general use.
Romans 9:21

22 In the same way, God has done. God wanted to show his anger so that people could see his power. God patiently endured those who were angry and prepared for destruction.
Romans 9:22

23 God endured them patiently, so that he might tell people about his rich glory. He wanted to give this glory to those who receive his favor. God had prepared those people for his glory.
Romans 9:23

24 We are God’s people. God called us to the Jews and to the nations.

25 As it is written in the book of Hosea, I will say that they which are not mine are my people; and I will say that those whom I have not loved are those whom I have loved.

Romans 9:28

29 As Isaiah goes on to say: “The Most High Lord saved some of his people for us. If he had not done so, we would have become like Sodom and go astray.”
Romans 9:29

Slaves of righteousness

15 What, then, should we do? Should we continue to sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not.
Romans 6:15

16 Surely you know that when you surrender yourselves to someone as a slave, to obey him, then you become his slave. And the person you trust will be your boss. In the same way, you can make sin your master or God your master. Sin brings spiritual death, but obedience to God makes people righteous.
Romans 6:16

17 In the past, you lived like slaves to sin. But thanks be to God, because you have wholeheartedly obeyed the teaching that was given you.
Romans 6:17

18 So you were set free from sin, and now you are slaves to the real life.
Romans 6:18

19 To illustrate this, I will give an example that people know. I explain it this way because it’s hard for you to understand. In the past, you dedicated your body parts to sin to be a slave to evil. So now, dedicate your body parts to be a slave to righteousness. Then you will live only for God.
Romans 6:19

20 In the past, you were under the control of sin and that is why righteousness could not keep you under control.
Romans 6:20

21 You did things that you are now ashamed of. Did those things help you in any way? Instead, they brought spiritual death for you.
Romans 6:21

22 But now you are free from sin. Now you are God’s servants. It will give you a life dedicated to God alone. You will receive eternal life from Him.
Romans 6:22

23 The wages of sin is death. But God gives his people eternal life as a free gift in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Romans 6:23
