Examples of faith

1 Faith means to be sure of the things we hope for, and to believe in things that we cannot see to be true.
Hebrews 11: 1

2 God was pleased with those who lived in the past because they believed in this way.

3 Faith helps us to understand that God created the world by His command. This means that the things we see were made out of things that cannot be seen.

4 Both Cain and Abel offered sacrifices to God. But Abel offered a better sacrifice to God because he had faith. God said that he was pleased with Abel’s sacrifices. And so God called Abel a good man because he had faith. Abel is dead, but he is still speaking through his faith.

5 Enoch was raised from the earth. She Never Died Scripture says that before Enoch was resurrected, he truly lived to please God. Later, people could not find Enoch because God raised Enoch to be in heaven. This happened to Enoch because he was a believer.

6 Without faith no one can please God. Anyone who comes to God must believe that God is real. And he that cometh to God must believe that he will reward them that seek him.

7 Noah was warned by God about things he had not yet seen. But in Noah’s heart was faith and reverence for God. So Noah built a huge ark to save his family. By his faith Noah showed that the world was wrong. And Noah was one of those who were justified by faith.

8 God called Abraham to travel to another place that God had promised to give to Abraham. Abraham had no idea where that place was. But Abraham obeyed God and started the journey because Abraham had faith.

9 Abraham lived in the land that God promised to give him. Abraham lived like a traveler in a place where he was not. He did this because of his faith. Abraham lived in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who had received the same promise from God.

10 Abraham was waiting for the city to be built. He was waiting for the city that God had designed and built.

11 Abraham was old enough to have a baby. Even Sarah was not fit to have children. But Abraham had faith in God. So God made them able to have children. This happened because Abraham believed that God could do what he promised.

12 This man was so old that he was dying. But from that one man came as many people as there are innumerable stars in the sky and there are grains of sand on the seashore.

13 All those great people lived by faith until death. Those people got what God promised them. Those people saw those things in the distant future and they were happy. Those people admitted that they were strangers and travelers on earth.

14 When people accept something like that, they show that they are waiting for a country that will be their own.

15 If those people were thinking only of the country they had left, then they had time to go back there.

16 But those people were waiting for a better country – a heavenly country. So God is not ashamed to call them God. And God has prepared a city for those people.

17 God tested Abraham’s faith. God told Abraham that he should sacrifice Isaac. Abraham obeyed because he had faith in him. Abraham already had God’s promises. And God had said to Abraham, “This is Isaac your son.” But Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. Abraham did this because he was a believer.

18 And to whom it was said that your seed shall be called Isaac.

19 Abraham believed that God could bring people back from the dead to life. And indeed we can say that in a way, when God stopped Abraham from killing him, it was as if he had brought Isaac back from the dead.

20 Isaac blessed the future of Jacob and Timothy. Isaac did this because he had faith.

21 And Jacob blessed every son of Joseph. Jacob did this when he was about to die. He was bowing down to worship God. Jacob did these things because he had faith.

22 And when Joseph was dying, he spoke of the Israelites leaving Egypt. And Joseph told the people what they should do with the rest of his body. Joseph said these things because he had faith.

23 And Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born. They did this because they were believers. Because they saw that Moses was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid to disobey Pharaoh’s command.

24 When Moses grew up, he did not like to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. Because he had faith, he did it.

25 Moses chose not to indulge in sin. These orgasms were about to end. Instead, Moses chose to suffer with God’s people. Moses did this because he had faith.

26 Moses thought that it would be better for Christ to suffer than to have all the treasures of Egypt. Moses was waiting for the reward that God would give him.

27 Moses left Egypt. He left Egypt because he had faith. Moses was not afraid of the king’s wrath. Moses continued to persevere as if he could see God, whom no one could see.

28 Moses celebrated the Passover and sprinkled the blood on the door. This blood was sprinkled on the doors so that the angel of death could not kill the firstborn sons of the Jewish people. Moses did this because he had faith.

29 And all the people that were led by Moses passed through the Red sea on dry land. He was able to do this because he had faith. The Egyptians also tried to cross the sea, but they all drowned.

30 And the walls of Jericho fell down because of the faith of God’s people. The people marched around the walls of Jericho for seven days and the walls came down.

31 And the prostitute Rahab welcomed the Israelite spies and helped them as friends. And because of her faith she was not killed along with other people who did not obey.

32 Do I need to give you more examples? I have little time to tell you about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, Davos, Samuel, and the prophets.

33 All these people had faith. They defeated the governments with their faith. They did what was right and received what God promised. Many of them have silenced lions by their faith.

34 Some people put out terrible fires and others escaped being killed by swords. They did all this because of their faith. Those who were weak were made strong by faith. They became powerful in battle and drove out the enemy forces.

35 Those who were killed were raised from the dead, and the women of their families were handed over. Others were tortured and refused to be released. They did this so that they could be raised from death to a better life.

36 Some were mocked and flogged. Others were bound and thrown into prison.

37 They were stoned to death and divided into two parts. He was killed by the sword. Some people got sheep and goat hides and started wandering. They were poor, oppressed, and abused by others.

38 The world was not enough for these great people. These people wandered in the deserts and mountains and lived in caves and holes in the earth.

39 All these people became famous for their faith. But none of them got what God promised.
Hebrews 11:39

40 God planned to give us something better. He wanted to make these people perfect, including us.
