1 In those days John the Baptizer began preaching in the wilderness of Judea.

2 And he said, Repent ye, and be converted, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

3 John the Baptizer is the one spoken of through the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah says: “In the wilderness a man is shouting: ‘Prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight.’”

4 John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and a leather belt around his waist. And his food was locusts and wild honey.

5 And all Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, came to hear him.

6 The people confessed their sins, and John baptized them in the Jordan River.
Matthew 3: 6
7 But when he saw that many of the Pharisees and Sadducees had come to baptize him, he said to them, “You are all serpents! Who told you to flee from God’s coming wrath?
Matthew 3: 7
8 You should do things that show that you have changed your life and mind.
Matthew 3: 8
9 Do not be proud in your heart to say, ‘We are Abraham’s children.’ I tell you, God can bring forth children out of these stones for Abraham.
Matthew 3: 9
10 The ax is ready to cut down the trees. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
Matthew 3:10
11 I indeed baptize you with water to repent, but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Matthew 3:11
12 His hand is in his hand. He will separate the wheat from the straw. He will store the wheat in the barn. He will burn the straw in a fire that cannot be extinguished. ”
