39 And when it was day, they saw the land. But they did not recognize the land. They saw a bay on the shore of the sea, so they decided to take the ship to the bay if they could.

40 And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore. Then they lifted the front of the ship into the air and headed for shore.

41 But the ship hit the barge. The front of the ship sank into the sand and could not move. Then the big waves of the sea broke the ship.

The 42 soldiers decided to kill the prisoners so that no one could save himself.

43 And the centurion, desiring to keep Paul alive, forbade them to kill him. Instead, Julius ordered those who knew how to swim to jump and swim first.

44 Then the rest of the people used wooden planks and pieces of the ship to reach the ground, and somehow they all reached the safe land.
