David’s Salvation Song

1 He said, “Lord, my strength, I love you.”
Psalm 18: 1

2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my place of refuge. My God is my rock: I seek refuge in him, and he is my shield;
Psalm 18: 2

3 They made fun of me. But I cried out to the Lord for help, and he saved me from my enemies.
Psalm 18: 3

4 My enemies were trying to kill me. Death was all around me. I walked in the flood that was taking me to the dead.
Psalm 18: 4

5 The ropes of the grave surrounded me, the snares of death were laid before me.
Psalm 18: 5

6 Until I was surrounded, then I prayed to God. Yes, yes, I cried to my God. God was in his temple. He heard my screams. He heard my voice for help.
Psalm 18: 6

7 The earth shook and trembled; The pillars of heaven were shaken. Why? Because Jehovah was angry.
Psalm 18: 7

8 Smoke came out of God’s nose. Out of his mouth proceeded burning flames, burning sparks.
Psalm 18: 8

9 The Lord tore the heavens apart and he came down. He was standing on a dark cloud.
Psalm 18: 9

10 The Lord was flying in the sky. He was riding on fast cherubim. He was flying high in the air.
Psalm 18:10

11 The Lord was hidden in the dark clouds that surrounded him like tents. He was hiding in the clouds.
Psalm 18:11

12 Then the bright light of the Lord came out, breaking through the clouds. It struck and lightning struck.
Psalm 18:12

13 The Lord thundered from heaven. The Most High God made his voice heard. There was even a thunderstorm and lightning.
Psalm 18:13

14 The Lord shot down his arrows and drove out his enemies. The Lord sent many rays of lightning and the people ran away in panic.
Psalm 18:14

15 The water was pushed back when you gave a loud command. We could see the bottom of the ocean. We could also see the foundations of the earth.
Psalm 18:15

16 The Lord came down from the heavens and saved me. He grabbed me and pulled me out of the deep water (trouble).
Psalm 18:16

17 My enemies are stronger than I am. They hated me. My enemies were stronger than I was. That is why God saved me.
Psalm 18:17

18 I was in great distress, and I was attacked by my enemies. But Jehovah came to my aid.
Psalm 18:18

19 The Lord loves me. That is why he saved me. He took me to a safe place.
Psalm 18:19

20 I am innocent, so the Lord will reward me. I have done no wrong, so he will do me good.
Psalm 18:20

21 Why? Because I obeyed his commands. I have done nothing wrong to you, God.
Psalm 18:21

22 I always remember the Lord’s decisions. I follow his principles and follow him.
Psalm 18:22

23 I was pure and honest with him, and I kept myself from doing evil.
Psalm 18:23

24 Therefore the Lord will reward me. Why? Because I am innocent. As God sees it, I have done nothing wrong, so he will do me good.
Psalm 18:24

25 Lord, if anyone truly loves you, pour out your true love on him. If anyone is true to you, you will be true to him.
Psalm 18:25

26 Lord, you are good and holy to those who are good and holy. But you become smarter for bastards and scoundrels.

27 Lord, you help those who are humble. But you bring down the proud.
Psalm 18:27

28 Lord, you light my lamp. My God lights up the darkness around me.
Psalm 18:28

29 With your help, Yahweh, I will flee with the armies. With God’s help I can climb the walls of the enemy.
Psalm 18:29

30 God’s power is perfect, the word of the Lord is tested. He protects those who believe in him.
Psalm 18:30

31 There is no Lord but God. There is no rock except our God.
Psalm 18:31

32 God gives me strength. He supports me in living a pure life.
Psalm 18:32

33 God helps me to run as fast as a deer. He keeps me in high places.
Psalm 18:33

34 God teaches me to fight so that my arms can bend the mighty bow.
Psalm 18:34

35 God, you saved me and helped me win. You supported me with your right arm. You helped defeat my enemy.
Psalm 18:35

36 Strengthen my legs and ankles so I can walk fast without stumbling.
Psalm 18:36

37 Then I will be able to pursue my enemies and capture them. I will not return without destroying them.
Psalm 18:37

38 I will defeat my enemies, so that they will not rise again. All my enemies must be under my feet.
Psalm 18:38

39 God, you made me strong in battle. You have thrown my enemies before me.
Psalm 18:39

40 You gave me a chance to strike my enemy, and I killed my enemies.
Psalm 18:40

41 My enemies cried out for help, but there was no one to save them. They also cried out to the Lord, but he did not listen to them.
Psalm 18:41

42 I have torn my enemies to pieces. They were like dust blowing in the wind. I tore them to pieces.
Psalm 18:42

43 Deliver me from those who fight against me. I became the leader of those nations. Let those whom I do not know serve me.
Psalm 18:43

44 They will hear about me, and they will obey me. Those foreigners will be afraid of me.
Psalm 18:44

45 Foreigners will tremble with fear. They will come out of their hiding places trembling with fear.
Psalm 18:45

46 The Lord is awake and alive. I praise my camel. God saves me, he is great.
Psalm 18:46

47 God punished my enemies for me. He has subdued the people under me.
Psalm 18:47

48 Lord, you have protected me from my enemies. You have helped me defeat those who came against me. You saved me from the tyrants.
Psalm 18:48

49 Therefore I will praise thee, O LORD, among the heathen; Therefore I will sing praises to your name, Yahweh.
Psalm 18:49

50 The Lord helps his king to win many battles. He shows his true love for his chosen king. He will be faithful to David and his descendants forever.
